Transfer Admission Process

Admissibility of students who wish to transfer from another college or university to Potomac State College of West Virginia University will be determined:

  • Upon receipt of an application for admission, and
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities
  • Provided that the student meets the academic eligibility requirements as a returning student at the previous institution and has a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Other students may be accepted for transfer depending on review of an appeal committee.

If the applicant has fewer than 12 transferable hours of college credit then the applicant must meet the freshman admission requirements.  All credentials in support of an application should be submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services at least 15 days prior to the beginning of the semester for which the applicant is applying.

ACT and SAT Scores Information

ACT and SAT scores are not required, but you are encouraged to submit the scores for one or both tests. The ACT and/or SAT scores are used to determine scholarship awards and for placement in math and English classes. If you do not submit ACT and/or SAT scores, you may be required to take a math and/or English Placement Test. Placement tests are offered at Potomac State Orientation (PSO) events. Click here for more information about PSOs; dates of upcoming PSO events; and to learn more about math and English placement testing. ACT and/or SAT scores are accepted in two of the following formats. If the score(s) appear on your official high school transcript, this format will be accepted. If you receive a mailed notice of your score(s) from the ACT and/or SAT college test companies, a copy of this format will be accepted. The online notification(s) will not be accepted.
