Potomac State Women's Lacrosse
On October 14, 2013 Potomac State College of West Virginia University Athletic Director Shawn White announced that the College will be adding four new athletic programs to its current line-up including men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s cross country.
“The addition of these sports will continue the growth and excitement for athletics at the College,” said White. Potomac State’s athletic department currently consists of seven sports including women’s basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball and men’s baseball, basketball, and soccer. Combined, there is approximately 150 student athletes. “We’re expecting with the addition of these four new sports, our total could jump to more than 200 student athletes.”
White says his research shows that lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the nation. “A lot of thought, time and effort went into this decision regarding cost, travel and the ability to recruit students and coaches to Potomac State. I believe with the strong tradition and history of our athletic department, these programs will eventually gain regional prominence.” The College plans to recruit from lacrosse hotbeds on the east coast reaching from New York to Virginia.
A search for lacrosse and cross country head coaches will begin immediately and once hired, the coaches will spend the remainder of the 2013-2014 academic year recruiting.
White concluded, "this is another exciting time for Potomac State, if anyone would like to be a part of the fundraising efforts to help bring these projects to fruition, please contact me at 304-788-6879 or SAWhite@mail.wvu.edu ."
