Recycling Program

Recycling at Potomac State College

Potomac State College of West Virginia University is Going Green as the campus officially kicked off its recycling initiative in May 2011. However, the campus is not alone in its efforts as it extends an invitation to the Keyser community to participate in its Catamounts Recycling Program.

The compartmental trailer was made available through collaboration with WVU which secured a Recycling Assistance Grant from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.

The WVU Research Corporation, which won the grant, used the money to purchase compartmental recycling trailers and bins for the main campus in Morgantown, W.Va. as well as for the Potomac State College campus. Providing the cardboard trailer as well as proper disposal of the recyclables is United Disposal under the proprietorship of Bill Hood, Sr.

The College is currently recycling

  • Newspaper (including glossy inserts)
  • Office Paper (copier, typing, computer, stationery)
  • Catalogs and Magazines
  • Corrugated Cardboard (Boxes with fluted sheet between flat sheets such as shipping containers)
  • Aluminum cans can be taken to the recycling bins in the Student Union and Science Hall.

Recycling trailers are located behind Lough Gym in parking lot C-5.

The blue trailer has bins on both sides for newspaper, office paper, and catalogs. The green trailer is for corrugated cardboard only.

Recycling stations are placed around campus at locations shown on the map. They have two bins, one for office paper, and the other as labeled. Some are aluminum, some are catalogs and magazines.

Slim Jims, also placed around campus, are for office paper only.

Faculty and staff have been provided with recycling trays for their offices; however, it is the individual’s responsibility to take the contents to a unit or the trailers.

The Potomac State Recycling Committee requests your help to make this program a success. Do your part by taking recyclables to containers or trailers.
