Commuter students are very important members of the Potomac State College community.
Commuter students at Potomac State College of West Virginia University are encouraged to get involved in campus life. Just because you don’t live on campus doesn’t mean that you cannot be active in student life.
Commuter students are encouraged to get involved in the Student Government Association (SGA). Many of the SGA officers are commuters. Students who commute are also encouraged to join a campus club or student organization. Information about SGA and Student Organizations is available here.
There are monthly Commuter Pizza Socials where commuter students have the opportunity to stop in and have free pizza and bottled water and to socialize with other commuter students as well as with faculty and staff. The Socials are held in the Davis Conference Center and are scheduled on the following dates during the 2015 fall semester: Tuesday August 18, Wednesday September 16, Thursday October 15, and Wednesday November 18. Commuter Socials begin at 12 noon and normally lasts until 1:30 PM or until the food is gone.
Commuter students are encouraged to purchase a Commuter Dining Plan and to eat in the Rapids (ala carte option) or Commons (all-u-care-to-eat option) located in University Place. Nine different meal plans are available to commuter students. Dining on campus sure beats fast food or a packed lunch in your vehicle. For more information about on campus dining options, click here.
Commuters are invited to participate in PSC Late Night. This program provides positive social options for students to participate in student life. Activities, snack foods, and beverages are provided throughout each semester in the Commons on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9:30 PM - 11:30 PM. Commuter students are welcome to attend. The Underground (lower level) is a place to hang out and play pool, ping pong, fooseball, or air hockey. The Union opens early and stays open late throughout the week and on weekends.
Students who commute also have access to the Student Health Center, Counseling Services, the Academic Success Center, Career Services, the exercise room in University Place, the weight room in the gym, the Library, and computer labs throughout campus.
The best way for commuters to stay connected to what is happening at Potomac State is probably through the College Web site Calendar. It is also important that commuter students check their student email daily as campus announcements and other important information is communicated to students through the WVU Portal. Last, but certainly not least, just ask.
