Criminal Justice Online Offered at WVU Potomac State College

Potomac State College offers the only Criminal Justice B.A.S. program in the state of West Virginia. Depending on your motivation level, you can complete the third and fourth years of a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degree in Criminal Justice (CJ) in as little as 18 months by taking advantage of the Prior Learning Assessment and possibly receiving course credit for your Academy training (may apply to A.A.S. only). The CJ-specific courses are designed in an eight-week, accelerated format, while the other online courses span the entire semester.

While the program was designed to provide WVU-PSC A.A.S Criminal Justice graduates with the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree, students who have earned a related associate’s degree with a minimum 2.0 GPA may also apply. The College maintains articulation agreements with several two-year institutions to facilitate seamless transfer of associate degrees and offers scholarships for students in West Virginia and some neighboring states.

The 60-credit curriculum adheres to the same rigor as the College’s traditional CJ B.A.S. degree. Coursework includes: victimology, criminal evidence, ethics and the criminal justice system, and research methods in criminal justice. Students take four upper-level courses covering pressing issues in criminal justice and law enforcement, such as hate crimes; forensic techniques; community-based corrections; white collar and economic crime; and drugs, crime, and society.
